My Birthday

Yesterday was my birthday. I am not twenty something anymore. I think this makes me officially an adult now. (I guess I should start acting like one). Saturday was great. I got to go shopping for my new shoes with Ann (I could hardly stop laughing most of the time). I got my new running shoes and can't wait to use them. They are pink and Ann and I are matching. I got a new craft project to start on (don't tell Matthew, he does not approve of ME starting a new project with others not finished). We had a get together for cake and ice cream with my fam last night and my own birthday dinner. All in all it was a good birthday!!!!

Here are pictures of the girls in their Easter dresses. They love dresses and wear them all the time so this was not anything special to them . They couldn't figure out why I was taking thier picture and complained the whole time. I couldn't get them to all look at me at the same time. They are silly girls, but they are beautiful. We had them stand on the clothes line that Matthew built last summer. He is so proud of it. It is industrial strength too. It will last through the Mellenium. The Salt Lake Temple and my clothes line will be all that is left standing.

Well Done Sister Suffragette

Mallorie had to get immunizations today and she is milking it. So she is laying on the chair with her "owies" and is now watching Mary Poppins. This inspired me to add the funniest song in the movie to my playlist. Mostly, Ann, this is for you my sister suffragette.

When is it ok for a man to cry?

We had dinner last night at my mother's house like we do every week. This time because of Easter she made a beautiful meal; ham, taters, string beans, and strawberry shortcake. We brought home the leftover ham and taters for Matthew's lunch and for snacks here. Our lovely foster dog got on the table and took it while we were getting the children out of the van. We came inside and saw that it was gone. Matthew's was mad (he loves food)!!! He went all through the house and couldn't find the dog or the ham. He was getting so upset, he wasn't sure what to do. I told him to check outside. Major had taken the ham and was hiding in the back yard having a feast. Needless to say our beautiful ham is now in the garbage. After it was all done Matthew sat down and said "There are three reasons for a man to cry; the death of someone you love, the birth of your children and when your dog eats your ham on Easter." Next time you see him give him your condolences.

New Music Element

I posted some music for your listening pleasure. These are a few of the songs I really like. I just picked a few because I didn't know if I would be able to post it, but it was easy and free. It was even easy to change it after Ihad posted it.

Make sure you listen to the whole song first. I unintentionally posted an unedited version of "A Boy Named Sue". Don't worry I fixed it. It is now a PG (for subject matter) version.

Enjoy!!!

Pretzels

We had so much fun today!!!! We made pretzels. You see we have decided to cut out as much food with preservatives as we can, that means very few packaged snacks are available to us. We found a recipe for making pretzels and decided to kill two birds with one stone. We had a reading lesson for both Mallorie and Lola while making letter pretzels. We made letters and their sounds and then spelled lots of words to sound out. Here are a few pictures of our fun.

Happy Birthday Stacee

I just wanted to tell Stacee happy birthday. I hope you have fun day and get everything that you want!!!

Major Addition

We have a new member of the family...temporarily. We are the foster family for a pure bred British style Black Lab named Major. He is so pretty and so sweet. I just can't imagine why someone would get rid of this dog. He does know how to open the garbage can, which is super annoying. He is so dirty and smells really bad. The two of them will just stay outside today until Matthew and I can give him a bath this afternoon. The best part is that he is so calm and has a calming effect on Toby. We may have to keep him just for that purpose. Maybe Toby will stop peeing when you come over Bugs!!!!

Are feminists really pro-boy?

I read an article yesterday called "War Against Boys" by Michael Kimmel. Overall the article overall was a little unsettling to me but the last paragraph made me laugh outloud as I read it. The feminists referred to in this article are radical feminists. Maybe I am wrong, tell me what you think.

"....feminists believe that men are better than that, boys can be raised to be competent and compasionate, ambitious and attentive, and that men are fully capable of love, care, and nurturance. It's feminists who are really "pro-boy" and "pro-father"- who want young boys and thier fathers to expand the definition of masculinity and to become fully human."

True Talent

Watch this!! You won't be disappointed.

http://www.maniacworld.com/Phone-Salesman-Amazes-Crowd.html

This man is amazing. He is proof that true talent can be hidden in anyone and that everyone has a talent. I have listened to this several times and each time I get goose bumps when he starts to sing.

New sewing machine

We came home from learning about grinding wheat this morning and we had a package. We love packages. Even better is that it was a toy. It was one of the sewing machines for Miss M and Beans that we ordered. We are trying two different kinds. I can't keep them away from my sewing machine when I sew. Hopefully it will help to have their very own right next to me.

Swim Suit Models

This is a picture the Miss Mallorie and Miss Mae in their new swim suits that I made for them. Sister Sue's suit is not done (I still have to alter the pattern) and I will not be posing for a picture in mine. With three girls modesty is something I think about a lot. There are some really immodest clothes for young girls. We had been looking for a modest swim suit for them for a long time and found a few sites selling suits similar to these, but they were so expensive. I finally found a site that sold patterns for their suits (http://www.modest-swimwear.net/index.htm). I bought all three sizes and couldn't wait to make them. I probably should have waited for a little while, the selection of lycra for swim wear is slim in January, nevertheless here they are. We can hardly keep them off of them. Lola wears hers to bed most nights. I can't wait for the opportunity to go swimming soon!!

About the ranchers

We are not really ranchers, but wish we could be or something like that. This is a new blog for us. We have been blogging for a while, but the first site went down and they haven't put it back up. Then we went to another spot and that is alright, but this site seems easier and more people I know are here. So here we go again.

Just so everyone is clear on who we are, there are 5 of us. Matthew, Kellie, Mallorie, Lola, and Abigail. Matthew is hard at work again (he was down for almost 2 weeks with Influenza A) finally. Mallorie is loud and wild and loves the outdoors, an exact replica of her daddy. She is 4 and sometimes I forget that because she doesn't act like she's 4 or talk to me like she is 4. I am always reminding her to not grow up so fast. She tells me that she can't help it. Lola is the jokester. She tries (and succeeds) very hard to make us laugh, sometimes we laugh just looking at her. Abby is our sweetheart. We are so lucky to have her. Despite all of the worry she gave us in the beginning with her breathing problems we feel so priviledged to have her in our family. We have learned so much from her. We still worry, but less now than before. As for me I am just a mom. I stay home as much as possible, especially with Abby, and there really is no place I would rather be. I read alot. In fact, Matthew tells me to seek help because it has become an obsession to me. Matthew found the quote by Alcott for me, I guess I may have a small problem.
